Yosakoi is an energetic dance style from Japan that blends traditional and modern music and choreography. Maria and Amanda from MinnesoDance will be instructing this workshop. The team aims to share Yosakoi with the community and dance "sou odori" (group dances) with those around them. The dance style is open to everyone and is commonly danced by large groups at summer festivals in Japan, especially in Kochi, the prefecture in which it originated. In Kochi, judges award individual medals not based on performance of the choreography, but on a dancer's energy and joy while dancing. Please wear loose fitting clothing, and you are encouraged to bring water. The team will be providing some naruko (clappers) to use, but they are not required.
